Fairbanks Community Band
-->
The Fairbanks Community Band is a wind and percussion ensemble for adult musicians. We have a concert band, a jazz band, and a summer band which plays outdoor concerts. Our purpose is to provide an opportunity for adults to continue making music beyond the high school and college years, and to pass our enjoyment of live music on to the community in which we perform. See about the band for more information about our members, our music, and how to join.
Quick notes

- Concert Band members
Congratulations! All of the 1,100 pieces of music are back in the hands of our now happy librarian. She sends a heart felt thank you to everyone. - Jazz Band members
Next up is participation in the UAF Jazz Festival. - Everybody
The bands will host a fund raiser June 19, in the form of a garage sale. Wendy is organizing it.
Important note: This summer (2010), concert band rehearsals will remain on Thursday evening. Jazz band will stay on Wednesday evening, but will not rehearse on days when the concert band is performing.
From Wendy:
I was thinking how fortunate we all are to be able to be a part of this incredibly
talented group. Thank you so much for being a part of the Fairbanks Community Band!
The positive, glowing comments were numerous last night. I hope you had as much
fun playing, as we all had listening to you. I want to thank each and every one of
you for your contribution to this band. It is quite a team effort! I have always
thought of a band as a machine and that every nut and bolt, cog and wheel have a
place and importance. (Please don’t take that “nut” comment the wrong way.)
Thanks for all of the comments and suggestions. Keep them coming. I want to try
to make the rehearsals be a low key, fun time in your life and yet have a few
pieces of music that are challenging.
I woke up in the middle of the night singing ....duh,da,duh, da,duh, da,da,duh, da,duh, da,duh, da,da,duh, da,duh,da,duh da,duh....and, of course, conducting those two measures in “Eye of the Falcon.” I also got a chuckle out of the number of you who were humming parts from the last piece, as you left last night.
If you can make it to the rehearsal on Thursday, great! If you are on Spring Break, enjoy it and we’ll see you the next Thursday.
Musically yours,
Wendy
From Lewy:
Many thanks to the concert band members for your patience and support in my struggles with
arranging music for the band. Your help for a fledgling arranger is greatly appreciated. I learned a lot, and had some
fun with it. I hope everyone else did, also.
Note-ably yours,
Lewy
